Resumes

A resume is a short document that outlines your education, skills and experience, and often includes other information intended to market you to potential employers. Having a professional resume is a crucial part of the interview process as it is often the first impression of you to the employer.

  • Adding campus experience and organization involvement is a great way to keep up with transferrable skills.

Cover Letters

A cover letter is a one-page document that accompanies your resume. The purpose of a cover letter is for you to explain to an employer what makes you qualified and why you believe you would be the best fit for the position.

  • A cover letter is not required for every interview, but is a highly encouraged option to set you apart from competitors.

Curriculum Vitae

A Curriculum Vitae (CV) is similar to a resume, but where resumes tend toward brevity, CVs lean toward completeness.

When should you use a CV instead of a resume?

  • You should use a CV when applying for academic, research, scientific and international positions.
  • A CV should also be used when applying for grants, scholarships and fellowships.
