Step #1: Explore your interests and values

If you are considering a new career path, take career assessments and find jobs you might want to try next.

Step #2: Update your job search materials

Add recent experience.

  • List accomplishments and awards from your most recent roles.
  • Add volunteer engagement and professional memberships.
  • Include technical skills, such as software listed in the job description that you have recent experience using.
  • Describe accomplishments and transferable skills for your industry.

Develop Job Search Materials

Remove less relevant and older content.

  • For most positions, include one page per 10 years of experience, prioritizing relevant information and lifelong accomplishments.
  • Read job descriptions thoroughly and tailor your resume for each position.
  • If writing a CV or applying for government jobs, older information may be required.

Contact references and update them on your search.

  • Let your references know what jobs you apply for and when hiring managers may call them.
  • Ask members of your network for job recommendations and endorsements.
  • Ask for a letter of recommendation from a recent supervisor.

Step #3: Update materials to job boards and banks.

Job & Interview Portal is OSU Career Services’ job board with opportunities from employers seeking students and alumni for internships, part-time and full-time opportunities.

EmployOklahoma (previously OKJobMatch) is an Oklahoma resume bank and job board with additional resources and trainings from State Agencies.

LinkedIn  is a powerful networking and job search tool. Update your profile and lean on your network where you can.

CareerShift is a job search and networking tool available for OSU Alumni Association members, students, and recent graduates.
